Summary

  • Pokemon GO players can use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids during Fashion Week: Taken Over.
  • Players have the chance to capture Pokemon with higher IV stats during Shadow Raids.
  • Remote raid passes will only be available in Shadow Raids for a limited time.

Niantic has announced that Pokemon GO players can utilize remote raid passes for Shadow Raids for the first time during the upcoming Fashion Week: Taken Over event. Introduced in 2023, Shadow Raids have become a popular method for catching strong Pokemon within the game.

As we step into 2025, Niantic has unveiled a series of updates for the beloved augmented reality game. In January alone, players will see the return of Ralts for the second Pokemon GO Community Day of the month. With the new event on the horizon, the developers have delighted fans by introducing a much-anticipated feature to the mobile game.

During the Pokemon GO Fashion Week: Taken Over event, trainers will have the opportunity to use remote raid passes for Shadow Raids for the very first time. The event will run from Wednesday, January 15, at 12:00 a.m. to Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. During this period, players can participate in any one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids either in person or remotely. Participants in Shadow Raids will have the chance to capture Pokemon with higher IV stats, enhancing their gaming experience.

Pokemon GO Temporarily Introducing Remote Raid Passes for Shadow Raids

Although this feature will be limited to the duration of the Fashion Week: Taken Over event, players can still engage in remote battles during the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid day on January 19 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. local time. On this raid day, trainers will enjoy an increased chance of catching the elusive shiny shadow Ho-Oh and can teach it the charged attack Sacred Fire. Additionally, players can use a Charged TM on Shadow Pokemon to remove the move Frustration.

Gamers are likely to be thrilled at the prospect of using their remote raid passes in Shadow Raids, a feature that has been highly requested since its introduction in 2023. However, it's important to note that once the Fashion Week: Taken Over event ends, players will no longer be able to use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids.

It remains uncertain whether Niantic will continue to allow the use of remote raid passes for Shadow Raids in the future or if this is a one-time event. The developers have faced criticism over the need for in-person gatherings for Dynamax and Gigantamax battles, which require many trainers to tackle the more formidable monsters. A permanent integration of remote raid passes into Shadow Raids could address these concerns and be a welcome change for many fans.
