PlayStation Rumors Hint at New Brawler Inspired by 'Smash'

A PlayStation studio, recently established by Sony, has reportedly taken over development of Bungie's mysterious MOBA, codenamed "Gummy Bears." Initially conceived at Bungie, this project, rumored to be in development since at least 2020, has undergone a significant shift.

This unique MOBA, targeting a younger audience than Bungie's previous titles, is said to borrow a key mechanic from the Super Smash Bros. franchise: a percentage-based damage system instead of traditional health bars. This system influences knockback distance, culminating in characters being knocked off the map when damage reaches a critical threshold.

The game is expected to feature standard MOBA character classes (Attack, Defense, Support) and multiple game modes. Its visual style is described as inviting, colorful, and low-fi—a deliberate departure from Bungie's established aesthetic.

While the exact release date remains unknown, the project's transition to a new PlayStation studio suggests it's still in relatively early stages of development, potentially years from launch. The approximately 40-person team at the new studio is now responsible for bringing Gummy Bears to fruition.
