"Phasmophobia: Blumhouse's Next Horror Film Adaptation"

Kinetic Games' spine-chilling ghost-hunting experience, Phasmophobia, is making its way from the digital realm to the silver screen.

The acclaimed horror studio Blumhouse, known for cinematic hits like Five Nights at Freddy's, The Conjuring, and M3gan, has teamed up with the UK-based developer to bring a feature film adaptation to life. Details remain under wraps—there’s no word yet on the writer, director, or cast—leaving fans with plenty to speculate about.

“This is a monumental moment for the entire Kinetic team and the beginning of an exciting new journey,” said Daniel "Dknighter" Knight, director of Kinetic Games. “When we launched the game five years ago, we never imagined it would reach such incredible heights. We’re deeply grateful to our passionate community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has made, both in gaming and beyond.”

“Partnering with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster opens a thrilling new chapter for the franchise. We’re excited to see where this story goes and look forward to sharing more as the project evolves.”

Play *Phasmophobia* is a four-player online co-op psychological horror game where teams of paranormal investigators enter haunted locations brimming with supernatural activity. Players must gather evidence, identify the ghost type, and survive the night using a mix of strategy, communication, and nerve. Since its early access launch in 2020, the game has helped define a new wave of ghost-hunting titles and surpassed 23 million sales worldwide, thanks to its immersive blend of co-op tension and investigative gameplay.

Coming soon, the highly anticipated Chronicle update will revamp core systems, including evidence mechanics, the in-game journal, and leveling progression.

The game even earned a spot on IGN's list of the 25 best horror games ever made—do you agree with its ranking?

While Blumhouse’s recent adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's received mixed reviews—earning a 4/10 from us for leaning too heavily on plot and missing the game’s core tension—a sequel is set for release in December 2025. Whether the studio can capture the eerie essence of Phasmophobia remains to be seen, but the potential for a chilling cinematic experience is undeniable.
