Peter David, the acclaimed novelist and comic book writer known for his work on titles such as The Incredible Hulk, Young Justice, and X-Factor, has passed away at the age of 68. The announcement was made by David's friend and colleague, Keith R.A. DeCandido, via a post on Facebook.

Throughout his illustrious career, which spanned several decades at both Marvel and DC Comics, David left an indelible mark on the industry. His most notable contribution was his 12-year tenure on Marvel's The Incredible Hulk, where he crafted a narrative that fundamentally reshaped the dynamic between Bruce Banner and his alter ego. This transformative work, alongside artist Dale Keown, earned them the prestigious Eisner Award in 1992. David's influence on the Hulk is often likened to that of Frank Miller on Daredevil and Chris Claremont on the X-Men, cementing his status as the quintessential Hulk writer.

In addition to his groundbreaking work on the Hulk, David co-created the futuristic character Spider-Man 2099 and had two impactful runs on X-Factor. His initial run on X-Factor reimagined the team as a government-sanctioned mutant strike force, while his second run transformed them into a detective agency led by Madrox the Multiple Man.

David's contributions extended to DC Comics, where he made significant strides with titles like Aquaman, Supergirl, and Young Justice. He also delved into the Star Trek universe, producing both comic books and novels, with his 1994 novel Q-Squared being particularly renowned.

Beyond the realm of comics and novels, David's talents graced television series such as Babylon 5, Young Justice, and Ben 10: Alien Force, as well as video games like Shadow Complex and Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

In recent years, David faced health challenges, beginning with a stroke in 2012. These struggles led family friend Graham Murphy to launch GoFundMe campaigns in 2022 and 2025 to support him.

Peter David is survived by his wife, Kathleen O'Shea David, and their four children. His legacy as a master storyteller and influential figure in comics will continue to inspire future generations.
