Max has unveiled an exciting new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, which significantly enhances its ties to the Superman universe by introducing Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner right from the opening scene. The trailer begins with Sean Gunn portraying Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl conducting a rather dismissive interview with John Cena's character, Peacemaker, for a potential superhero team. The interview quickly deteriorates, leaving Peacemaker visibly dejected as he storms out of the building.

This trailer offers fresh glimpses of these supporting characters, who are also slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The new season of Peacemaker is set to premiere on August 21 on Max, following the release of Superman on July 11. This positions Peacemaker Season 2 as the third entry in the newly established DCU, which was inaugurated by the Creature Commandos TV series late last year.

James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the critically panned DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the old universe will persist into the new. Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this transition, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now continuing in the DCU with its second.

James Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though the specifics of what will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, including John Cena reprising his lead role, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Furthermore, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the storyline of Peacemaker.
