DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared his enthusiasm, describing the season premiere as “one of my favorite things ever.” The tweet was accompanied by a brief snippet of new footage, showcasing John Cena in character as Peacemaker, complete with a smirk directed at the camera against a backdrop of flames. In the clip, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

This announcement comes on the heels of the July 11 release of Superman, marking the first major film in Gunn's reimagined DC Universe (DCU). Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third installment in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and this summer's Superman.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's revamped cinematic universe aims to distance itself from the critically criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the DCU. Peacemaker is a prime example, with Season 1 having been part of the DCEU and Season 2 now fitting into the new DCU framework.

Gunn has previously mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although it's not yet clear which aspects will transition from the old universe to the new. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, portrayed by the same actors. This includes John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the events of the latter film directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
