The excitement surrounding the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, has been palpable since its announcement. Fans have been eagerly theorizing about the potential mysteries it might unravel. However, during the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN discovered that one significant mystery—the jaw-dropping twist in the base game's final cutscene—won't be addressed in Overture. For those yet to experience the end of Lies of P, the spoiler-free gist is that the concluding cutscene teases future directions for the Lies of P universe with a surprising twist. This has sparked widespread speculation about its implications and potential ties to the DLC. Yet, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi clarified that the cutscene isn't connected to the upcoming DLC, simply stating, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Neowiz has already confirmed a sequel to Lies of P, hinting that the mysterious cutscene might be more relevant to the sequel. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce, with Choi refraining from dropping any sequel-related hints during our discussion. He emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, saying, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

The cutscene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is famously known as the Dorothy scene. As detailed here, the final cutscene features Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning his intention to "find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then reveals Dorothy's iconic striped sock legs and ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, suggesting that future developments in the Lies of P universe might weave in other public domain fairy tales. However, we now know this won't be explored in Overture.

While the Dorothy scene remains a mystery for the future, Choi did offer some tantalizing hints about what to expect in Overture. He encouraged fans to revisit the base game, pointing out that it contains numerous clues about the upcoming expansion: "When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi noted. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in the expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that, are going to be included in the expansion."

Choi also mentioned that some fans have already begun to unravel Neowiz's intentions, as he regularly engages with online fan theories and finds that "some of them are quite close." Additionally, we gathered some specifics about the DLC: Choi estimates it will take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. The DLC will be accessible after players reach a "certain" chapter of the game and can be played through to the end. As previously announced, Overture is a prequel, transporting the main character back in time to Krat just before its fall. It promises new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi remained tight-lipped about the specifics, saving the surprises for the release.
