Nvidia Issues RTX 5090 and 5080 Stock Shortage Warning to PC Gamers Ahead of Hotly Anticipated Release Date

The Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30th, but reports from retailers and manufacturers are raising concerns about significant shortages. With eager buyers already lining up outside stores, these high-end GPUs, priced at $1,999 and $999 respectively, are generating immense hype.

Manufacturer MSI, as reported by WCCFTech, attributes the initial limited supply to the Lunar New Year, anticipating stock levels to improve in February. Several retailers echo these concerns, with Overclockers UK reporting extremely limited RTX 5090 stock ("single digits") and only a few hundred RTX 5080 units for launch. PowerGPU further fueled these anxieties, predicting extremely low availability for the RTX 5090 launch.

In response to the growing concerns, Nvidia representative Tim@Nvidia issued a statement on the company's forum acknowledging the anticipated high demand and potential for stock-outs. They assured consumers that Nvidia and its partners are actively working to increase retail shipments.

Despite Nvidia's statement, the fear of limited stock has already attracted scalpers. Pre-sale listings on eBay are showing inflated prices; one listing for an Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 is priced at $5,750—a staggering 187% markup over the MSRP.

Adding another layer of complexity, Nvidia's share price dropped significantly (16.86%) on Monday following the announcement of the Chinese AI model DeepSeek, raising questions about the impact on Nvidia's datacenter GPU sales. This development may further influence Nvidia's stock allocation priorities.
