May 14,25

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly all games from the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select group of titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring exclusive upgrades. These titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each game's enhancements vary. Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV," which incorporates mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will boast improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from the "Zelda Notes" feature within the Nintendo Switch Online app, offering voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the option to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to include a new story arc exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled "Star-Crossed World," along with enhanced graphics and framerates.

For Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, players can expect mouse control support, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs to enjoy the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 versions.

The Direct also highlighted third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7 with mouse support, and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes.

The buzz around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week with a footnote on a webpage about the new Virtual Game Card system, which noted that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
