Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored to Feature Joy-Con Mouse

Feb 22,25

Following this morning's Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, rumors suggesting Joy-Con functionality as a mouse cursor seem increasingly plausible.

PlayThe reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface. They connect to connectors with seemingly flat bases, moving across the surface like a mouse on a mousepad. A potential slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. However, Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications. Fans envision uses in traditionally mouse-and-keyboard games like Civilization, while others anticipate innovative applications within first-party Nintendo titles. The possibilities remain open.

While details on potential mouse support (and the function of a new Joy-Con button) are scarce, we have confirmed information. The console is officially named the Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2025, and a new Mario Kart is in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, with further software announcements expected during an April Direct. Stay updated on all our Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
