Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change came in the wake of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused financial markets to tumble and the issue to spill over the border. Nintendo Canada confirmed that pre-orders in their region are also on hold, dashing hopes of making a pre-order through a cousin in Winnipeg.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, to synchronize with the yet-to-be-determined pre-order schedule in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a message to the Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

In other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already started in the UK, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have taken to eBay, listing pre-orders for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
