Netflix Stories Cancelled, Still Playable!

Apr 15,25

Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief but intriguing experiment in narrative gaming. This decision comes as a surprise to many, considering the solid player base these games had cultivated. So, why did Netflix decide to pull the plug on Netflix Stories? Let's delve into the details!

The news was first reported by Variety and is part of a larger strategic shift within Netflix Games. Moving forward, Netflix Games plans to concentrate on mobile titles that include party games, kids' games, mainstream releases, and more interactive experiences designed for TV play.

Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, including the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.

Netflix Stories Gets Cancelled, So Is It Shutting Down?

Despite facing some criticism, the games under the Netflix Stories banner consistently ranked among the most-played titles within the Netflix Games catalog. Recent reports place it at the fourth spot in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which ranks games based on playtime rather than downloads.

Looking at the future of the series, the last interactive title to be released under the Netflix Stories banner will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once its rollout is finalized, no further development on new Netflix Stories games will occur. This announcement comes shortly after the Netflix Stories app began teasing its next project, The Love Contract, which was slated for release on April 8th.

Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was not based on any existing Netflix IP but was an original romance story revolving around an actress navigating a complex love triangle between a Hollywood star and a billionaire, amidst fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has now been cancelled.

Although the development of new titles has ceased, the existing Netflix Stories games will remain available for players to enjoy. Titles such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple will still be accessible. However, planned sequels for Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have also been cancelled.

So, there you have it! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, be sure to check out the available games on the Google Play Store.
