Good news for Sesame Street fans! The iconic children's series, beloved since its 1969 debut, will continue streaming on Netflix and PBS after HBO Max concluded its licensing agreement at the end of 2024.

Netflix will offer both new episodes and an extensive back catalog globally, while PBS stations and PBS Kids will premiere new episodes simultaneously. This collaboration also opens doors for Netflix to develop interactive Sesame Street games, including content from the spin-off series Sesame Street Mecha Builders, aligning with Netflix's expanding gaming initiatives.

Sesame Workshop announced this groundbreaking partnership on May 19 through their social media channels. "Through this unique public-private alliance with Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Sesame Street remains committed to fostering children's intellectual, emotional, and social development worldwide," stated their official announcement.

The upcoming 56th season introduces a refreshed format, featuring 11-minute narrative-driven segments inspired by successful children's programs like Bluey. Classic fan-favorite segments including Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck will maintain their place in this new chapter.

Originally premiering in November 1969 and joining PBS in the 1970s, Sesame Street became an instant cultural phenomenon. HBO's $35 million 2015 partnership brought new episodes to streaming platforms, though the network later shifted focus away from children's programming.

While HBO and Max have discontinued producing new Sesame Street content, their platforms will maintain existing episodes until 2027—an extension beyond the original decade-long agreement, albeit without continued production involvement.
