Neil Druckmann Says 'Don't Bet on' There Being a The Last of Us Part 3

For fans eagerly awaiting news of The Last of Us Part III, series creator Neil Druckmann has delivered a blow to hopes of a sequel. In a recent interview with Variety, primarily focused on the TV series, Druckmann effectively shut down any speculation about a third installment. His response? A resigned sigh followed by, "I guess the only thing I would say is don't bet on there being more of 'Last of Us.' This could be it."

Whether or not to believe Druckmann is a matter of personal interpretation. Naughty Dog is currently engrossed in the development of Intergalactic, unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, a project likely years from release, given the absence of a release window. The studio's focus on space exploration leaves little room for a Last of Us Part III in the foreseeable future. Druckmann might be employing a strategic bit of coy ambiguity, or perhaps he's simply unwilling to commit at this stage. Time, of course, may alter his perspective.

However, for those still craving more Last of Us, the TV series continues to provide a compelling narrative. Season two premieres April 13th on Max, and while Druckmann remains uncertain about the total number of seasons, an HBO executive suggested four seasons may encompass the story of Part II.
