Mastering the Music Box in Phasmophobia: A Guide to Ghost Hunting

Phasmophobia challenges players to identify ghost types and escape alive. The game's frequent updates introduce new elements, including the intriguing Music Box. This guide details how to obtain and utilize this valuable tool.

Acquiring the Music Box

Like other cursed items, the Music Box has a 1/7 chance of appearing on any given map. Its spawn is entirely random; there's no guaranteed method to obtain it. Only one Music Box can spawn per game. Once located, interact with it to pick it up and activate it with another interaction.

Utilizing the Music Box

Several strategies involve the Music Box. Upon activation, it plays a song. A ghost within 20 meters will "sing along," revealing its proximity. Within 5 meters, the ghost will approach the Box. You can strategically place the activated Box on the ground to lure the ghost. The Box automatically stops playing and closes after the song concludes. Note that holding the active Music Box decreases your sanity.

Triggering a Hunt

The Music Box can initiate either a cursed or standard hunt, depending on these conditions:

  • Throwing the active Box (not placing it down).
  • Reaching 0% sanity while holding the active Box.
  • The ghost approaching the Box for over five seconds.
  • The ghost's proximity to the player holding the active Box.

Strategic Gameplay

For effective use, consider bringing supplementary tools like Smudge Sticks. These provide a survival advantage during a triggered hunt, enabling ghost identification or objective completion.
