The much-anticipated Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has taken a significant step forward with the announcement that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will pen the screenplay. Known for their work on the successful film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein bring their unique storytelling flair to this adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. The project is set to be produced by Margot Robbie under her production banner, LuckyChap, adding another layer of excitement to the film's development.

PlayDaley and Goldstein's recent projects include the original film *Mayday*, as well as writing credits on *The Flash* and *Spider-Man: Homecoming*, showcasing their versatility and ability to handle diverse genres.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a Monopoly film date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but the project didn't materialize. Subsequent attempts in 2015 involved Lionsgate and Hasbro teaming up with Andrew Niccol as the writer, and later in 2019, it was reported that Kevin Hart and director Tim Story would be involved. However, none of these efforts came to fruition.

The current push for the Monopoly movie gained momentum following Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, reigniting hopes that this version will finally "pass Go" and reach audiences worldwide.
