Minecraft Live 2025: Vibrant Visuals, Flying Happy Ghast, and Everything Announced

Apr 05,25

Minecraft Live 2025 has concluded, and Mojang has unveiled an exciting array of updates and new content for the iconic game. The first game drop of the year, dubbed "Spring to Life," is set to launch on March 25. This update will enhance the Overworld, making biomes feel more immersive and alive. Players can look forward to new variants of cows, pigs, and chickens, along with captivating ambient features such as the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and the whispers of sand, adding more reasons to explore the game's vast world.

The second game drop, yet to be named, introduces a new block called the Dried Ghast. This block, slightly smaller than a regular block and adorned with cute tentacles and a grumpy face, can be rehydrated to transform into a Ghastling—a baby ghast. The Ghastling, resembling a floating balloon in the Overworld, can be fed snowballs to grow into a Happy Ghast. Players can then craft a Ghast harness, allowing up to four players to fly on a single Happy Ghast, offering a unique way to navigate the game world. Mojang highlighted that the Happy Ghast will be particularly useful for builders in Survival Mode, likening the experience to being in Creative Mode but within the constraints of Survival.

Mojang also announced a significant visual upgrade for Minecraft, named "Vibrant Visuals." This upgrade aims to transform the visual experience of the game without affecting gameplay. For more details on this upgrade, check out IGN's separate article and their visuals comparison video.

In addition to game updates, Mojang shared a new clip for the upcoming "A Minecraft Movie" and announced a movie-themed in-game live event. This event, set to take place in Midport Village from March 25 to April 7, will allow players to join Steve and his movie companions in a multiplayer experience. Participants will defend the village from a piglin attack through three mini-games, with the chance to earn the Yearn cape by completing all challenges.

During our visit to Mojang's offices in Sweden, we learned more about the developer's stance on various topics, including why they won't create a Minecraft 2, won't transition to a free-to-play model, and won't use generative AI for game development.
