Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision

Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reaction generated by the initial announcement in Dev Talk 10.

The original plan, detailed in Dev Talk 10, called for a four-division rank drop every 45 days (mid-season). This was met with widespread criticism from players who felt it was overly punitive and discouraged competitive gameplay.

In a remarkable turnaround, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their ranks from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset will still occur, resulting in a six-division drop.

New Heroes and Other Updates Remain

The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, remains scheduled. NetEase Games continues to aim for two new playable characters per three-month season.

Reward structures for high-ranking players (Gold and above) also remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional end-of-season rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, are also planned. Balance adjustments are also anticipated following the mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
