Welcoming New Possibilities

After participating in the Elden Ring: Nightreign network test, Lies of P director Choi Ji-Won felt invigorated and is now considering fresh directions for upcoming projects. In a discussion with Eurogamer at the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared insights on Souls-like game development. He has previously acknowledged being an admirer of FromSoftware's work, an influence clearly reflected in Lies of P.

Choi commented on the upcoming Elden Ring title, noting, "I had the chance to try Nightreign, and it felt genuinely innovative and refreshing. It reinforced my view that the developers are exceptional—they consistently push creative boundaries, and their vision shines through. Interestingly, that experience motivated me to ensure the Overture DLC delivers the best possible experience."

This inspiration has led him to contemplate ventures into multiplayer games. Choi stated, "As we look to the future, we are certainly open to exploring all kinds of possibilities."

Although he appreciates FromSoftware's titles, Choi firmly clarified that no single game serves as his sole inspiration. In an interview with Games Radar+ during GDC 2025, he explained, "I enjoy a wide range of games, and the diverse experiences and ideas I gather from them all contribute to shaping the unique identity of Lies of P. Ultimately, it's a blend of influences from many beloved games that I transform into an experience tailored for Lies of P fans."

Overture Offers 15-20 Hours of Gameplay for Veterans

Choi shared that seasoned players can expect to spend 15 to 20 hours on the Overture DLC, which is packed with numerous bosses and content originally envisioned for the initial release. He elaborated, "Overture is intricately connected to the base game rather than being a standalone addition. Developing the expansion involved weaving these elements together to complete the Lies of P journey, which presented its own set of challenges."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to the final haunting days of Krat, following the story of a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new concepts, player feedback, and unused ideas that couldn't be included at launch due to development constraints. Choi likened this release to a Director's Cut, describing it as feeling like the conclusive chapter of the game.

He added, "With the base game, we had to prioritize quality above all, which meant we couldn't include everything at once. The tremendous support from our community after the initial release encouraged us to bring these additional elements to life in the expansion."

Overture's Story is Separate from the Base Game's Finale

In a conversation with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the upcoming DLC does not tie directly into the base game's final cutscene. Without spoilers, the original ending offered hints about the future direction of the Lies of P universe under developer NEOWIZ.

Choi had already confirmed a sequel in a Director’s Letter video back in November 2023, suggesting that the ending cutscene might relate to the next installment. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain closely guarded.

"What I can assure you is that when we are ready to share news or assets, we will make sure everything meets our high standards for quality, despite the pressures we've discussed before. That’s my commitment: we will only announce something when we are fully prepared," Choi emphasized.

He recommended that players revisit the base game for clues about the DLC's content, mentioning that he has seen fan theories online, some of which are remarkably accurate.

Lies of P: Overture is scheduled for a Summer 2025 release, though an exact date has not been announced. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates, keep an eye on our coverage below!
