Cancelled Transformers Game: Leaked Gameplay Footage Emerges

Following the recent cancellation of the co-op Transformers: Reactivate game, previously leaked gameplay footage has re-emerged online. Announced in 2022 by Splash Damage in partnership with Hasbro, the game promised a multiplayer experience featuring Generation 1 Autobots and Decepticons uniting against an alien threat.

Despite the 2022 announcement at The Game Awards, little official gameplay was shown, leading to speculation before the game's eventual cancellation. Splash Damage is now focusing on other projects, with potential job losses resulting from the project's closure.

Recently resurfaced footage, from a 2020 build, showcases Bumblebee navigating a destroyed city, seamlessly transforming between robot and vehicle modes, and utilizing various weapons. The gameplay bears resemblance to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, but instead of Decepticons, Bumblebee battles the "Legion," the game's intended alien antagonists.

Despite some missing textures, the leaked footage displays a polished look, including environmental destruction. An unfinished, silent cutscene concludes the clip, showing Bumblebee emerging from a portal in a ruined New York City, communicating with an ally named Devin about the Legion's attacks.

Numerous other leaks, dating back to 2020, predate the official announcement and cancellation. While Transformers: Reactivate will remain unplayed, the leaked footage offers a look at Splash Damage's ambitious, yet ultimately unsuccessful, Transformers project.
