Konami Unveils 'Silent Hill f': A Fresh Start for New and Old Fans Alike

May 23,25

Silent Hill f is not a sequel to any of the existing Silent Hill games. Instead, much like Silent Hill 2, it will offer a standalone story, "independent from the series." This confirmation comes directly from publisher Konami, who shared on X/Twitter that the latest installment of the horror series will be "a completely new title" designed to be accessible even to those who have never played a Silent Hill game before.

This approach isn't entirely new for Silent Hill. While Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill Origins are all connected, other games like Silent Hill 2 have more standalone narratives with less tangible links to the town. Additionally, parts of Silent Hill 4: The Room and Homecoming take place outside the titular town. Konami's statement assures that understanding Silent Hill f's unique 1960s Japanese setting won't require prior knowledge of the 26-year-old series.

Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan, following the journey of Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal and familial pressures. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, the acclaimed creator of the When They Cry visual novel series. As highlighted in the Japanese-language reveal trailer from March, Silent Hill f marks the first Silent Hill game to receive an 18+ rating certification in Japan.

Although still in development, the game's certification could change. Previous Silent Hill titles, including Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room, received a CERO:C rating, suitable for ages 15 and up, while other games in the series developed outside Japan were rated CERO:C or CERO:D (ages 17+). Silent Hill f is rated Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

No release date has been set for Silent Hill f yet, and details about No Code's upcoming Silent Hill game, Townfall, remain scarce.
