Keanu Reeves Recently Pitched DC Studios on Constantine 2 — and It’s Now Ready for a Script

Keanu Reeves has delivered the most encouraging Constantine 2 update yet, confirming the project is ready for a script. John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was famously portrayed by Reeves in the 2005 film adaptation, a cult classic that followed his success with The Matrix. For over two decades, fans have clamored for a sequel, a desire Reeves has consistently echoed.

Now, Constantine 2 appears closer to reality than ever before, thanks to Reeves' confirmation of a recent successful pitch meeting at DC Studios. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves told Inverse. “So, we're going to try and write a script.”

While promising, it's crucial to remember that a green light from DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran isn't guaranteed. Constantine 2 remains unconfirmed within the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran has publicly acknowledged its potential. The project's future remains uncertain.

However, Reeves hinted that, if produced, Constantine 2 will remain within the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured, adding with a playful tone: "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."

Reeves' comments follow those of producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who stated in September that a Constantine 2 script existed, but he was hesitant to read it. Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura revealed the script was in his inbox, expressing his apprehension: "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough,” he said. “I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
