HBO is ramping up production on its highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series, and it seems they've landed their first major casting: John Lithgow has been tapped to play the iconic role of Professor Dumbledore.

According to reports, HBO has been searching for the perfect Dumbledore for a while, and it looks like their quest has come to an end. In a candid interview with ScreenRant, Lithgow himself confirmed his acceptance of the role, noting that it will mark a significant "last chapter" in his illustrious career.

"It came as a total surprise to me. I received the call while at the Sundance Film Festival for another project, and it was a tough decision because it will define me for the last chapter of my life," Lithgow revealed.

He expressed his excitement, saying, "But I'm thrilled. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter, which made it a hard decision. I'll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I've said yes."
