Infinity Nikki Update 1.5 Sparks Uninstall Threats Over Controversial Changes

May 22,25

Infinity Nikki and its multiplayer-focused 1.5 update have made a dramatic entrance on Steam, accompanied by a parade of issues that have left fans less than thrilled.

Infold Games’ stylish dress-up adventure finally landed on Valve’s digital storefront after months of exclusivity on the Epic Game Store. What should have been a joyous occasion for the community quickly turned sour due to a series of technical glitches, unexpected design changes, and demanding new outfit requirements. In response, the developers issued an apology and promised compensation, but the battle for the soul of Infinity Nikki is far from over.

While technical problems at launch are not uncommon, the community's frustration didn't stop at performance issues.

The introduction of two new five-star outfits, Snowbound Ballad and Undying Ember, each requiring 11 pieces to complete, has caused a stir. Players are now facing the prospect of up to 220 pulls—and considerable expenditure—to fully assemble these outfits. This significant increase from the usual number of pieces came without any prior notice, raising concerns that future outfit requirements might become even more demanding.

Adding to the confusion, Infold extended the Crown of Miraland: Peak Arena event from two to three weeks. This sudden change, coupled with ongoing technical issues and the introduction of more aggressive monetization tactics, sparked a backlash among the Chinese player base on the social media platform RedNote. The movement quickly gained momentum, with players worldwide joining in to call for a boycott of Infinity Nikki on Steam, as well as urging others to leave negative reviews and uninstall the game across all platforms.

“Holding back your pulls for a couple of days can help show we want IN to remain fun and fair for all players,” Reddit user kiaxxl emphasized in a call-to-action post. “For gacha games, the success of new content is often measured in the first few days. Delaying your pulls can send a clear message to the developers.”

The community's reaction has had a noticeable impact. Infinity Nikki currently holds a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with numerous negative reviews cautioning potential players to steer clear until the developers address their concerns.

The growing discontent led Infold to release an apology letter across its official channels, acknowledging the technical issues and promising improvements. The letter also committed to better communication regarding future changes.

“Thank you again for your support,” the message from Infold reads. “We know we still have shortcomings, but it’s because of your companionship that Nikki can keep pushing the boundaries of imagination. Please give us another chance to let Nikki’s starlight continue shining for all of us, ensuring our sincerity never fades.”

In the letter, Infold announced that the Mira Crown event would be extended until May 16, with the next season starting the same day. Players will also receive compensation in the form of 10 Revelation Crystals, 10 Resonance Crystals, and 1200 Diamonds. While these steps are a positive move, many in the community feel they fall short of the comprehensive changes they were hoping for.

Despite the concessions, some players remain skeptical, particularly about the decision to maintain the 11-piece requirement for new outfits. The promise of improved communication is welcome, but the fear persists that future five-star outfits will continue to demand the same level of effort and expenditure.

I wish you would finally change the drop rate.. it can't be that I need 200 pulls to get a 5-star and then you drop like 5 banners within weeks?! Make the rate lower or give us more diamonds to be able to get crystals.. this is not fun!

While some players are celebrating the quick response to their concerns, others are urging the community to keep the pressure on. “Think about it: CN players are pointing out that if we accept the 11-piece outfits and pity as it is, most new 5 stars will be 11 pieces,” Reddit user EdensAsmr said. “Imagine if every new major update has two 11-piece 5-star banners? That means you have to save even more to be able to handle it, and 70-80 pulls per patch will not cut it.”
