Gandhi in Civilization 7? Firaxis Teases 'Hope'

Feb 23,25

Civilization 7's release has left many veteran players questioning the absence of a familiar face: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple in every Civilization game since 1991, his omission is notable. This absence, however, isn't a permanent one, according to Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach.

Beach confirmed that Gandhi's inclusion is part of a longer-term DLC roadmap. He explained that the initial Civilization 7 roster involved balancing iconic civilizations with newer additions to keep the game fresh. The omission of other historically significant civilizations, like Great Britain, initially caused similar concerns, but their inclusion is already planned for the "Crossroads of the World" DLC in March 2025. Beach emphasized that while some choices were omitted for the base game, Firaxis has a comprehensive plan for future additions, offering hope for Gandhi's eventual return.

Meanwhile, Firaxis is addressing the mixed user reviews on Steam, focusing on community feedback regarding the user interface, map variety, and missing features. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative reviews but expressed confidence that the core Civilization fanbase will appreciate the game more with continued play, describing its early performance as "very encouraging."
