Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Heaven?
At Droid Gamers, we often receive a variety of gadgets, but a projector is a novelty for us. The Formovie Episode One projector piqued our interest, especially given its promise to enhance mobile gaming on a larger screen. Designed to cater to those on a budget, the Episode One delivers on its promise and then some, despite some minor drawbacks.
Right out of the box, you get the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the substantial feel of pricier models, its three-pound weight makes it highly portable, ideal for taking on the go.
Some users might find the port selection limited, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, these options are suitable for most needs, especially considering the cost.
In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own for its price point. With 150 ISO lumens, it isn't the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. It struggled in bright sunlight during our tests but performed well in darker environments, as expected.
We tested it with various films and TV shows, all of which displayed clearly. Games streamed smoothly as well. For the best image quality, we found that the projector needed to be positioned at least 10 feet away. The sound output from the in-built speaker was adequate but somewhat tinny, suggesting that an external speaker would enhance the audio experience significantly.
The user interface of the Episode One is user-friendly and straightforward, making it easier to set up and use than some of the more expensive projectors we've encountered.
Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. While it may not excel in any single area, it serves as a reliable all-rounder that will meet the needs of most casual users effectively.
*As an added bonus, purchasing an Episode One projector comes with a $15/€15 Netflix gift card, available until May 27th. Click here to take advantage of this offer.*
