Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism

Feb 20,25

Civilization VII's rocky launch prompts developer response. Firaxis Games acknowledges player concerns regarding Civilization VII's current state, citing a less-than-stellar Steam rating of 47% positive. The criticism centers not on core gameplay mechanics, but on interface usability, missing features, and a perceived lack of content.

In direct response to this feedback, Firaxis has prioritized interface improvements. Their roadmap includes enhancing map readability, streamlining menus, and generally improving user-friendliness.

Planned additions include:

  • Multiplayer team functionality.
  • New map types.
  • Customization options (renaming religions and cities).

A significant update (1.1.0) is slated for March, incorporating balance adjustments and further refinements. While the full release is set for February 11th, many reviewers believe the game launched prematurely and requires substantial further development. The $70 price point has also drawn considerable criticism, with players feeling it doesn't currently reflect the game's quality.

The Civilization fanbase eagerly awaits updates that address these issues, hoping Civilization VII will eventually live up to the series' legacy of polished gameplay and detailed features. The current state, however, falls short of expectations.
