Lost Fantasy reunites Pires with Money artist Luca Casalanguida. The first issue boasts cover art by Casalanguida, Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. The series also features a serialized backup story, Indigo Children: Exodus, a continuation of Pires' science fiction series, Indigo Children.

Image Comics provides the following synopsis for Lost Fantasy:

A hidden magical world exists beneath our own, first contacted over a century ago following a catastrophic natural disaster. This event created a rift, unleashing monsters into our reality. Since then, elite monster hunters, known as The Great Hunters, have collaborated with global leaders to safeguard our world from these shadowy creatures. However, a recent massacre in Montana signals a significant shift, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter, Henry Blackheart, must now prevent a cataclysm.

Pires shared with IGN:

“I’m thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy, a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children with the intricate world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up with.” He further explains that the protagonist's spiky hair and large sword are direct tributes to Tetsuya Nomura's iconic Final Fantasy character designs. The "Lost" in the title is a subtle nod to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey, a post-Final Fantasy masterpiece.
