Final Fantasy 14 Stops Automatic Housing Demolition Shortly After Restarting It
Final Fantasy XIV Halts Housing Demolitions Due to LA Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily suspended automatic housing demolitions in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The company will announce a resumption date once the situation is assessed.
The automatic demolition system, typically a 45-day timer for inactive plots, is designed to manage the limited housing availability within the game. While the timer resets when owners log in, Square Enix periodically pauses the system to accommodate real-world events impacting player accessibility. A previous pause, ending January 8th, was due to Hurricane Helene's aftermath. This latest suspension began just one day after the previous moratorium ended, highlighting the unexpected nature of the situation.
This pause, effective January 9th, 11:20 PM Eastern, impacts only the four aforementioned data centers. Players can still reset their individual timers by logging into their homes.
Final Fantasy XIV's Housing Demolition Freeze: A Second Time Around
The recent pause on automatic housing demolitions in Final Fantasy XIV affects Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers in North America. The decision by Square Enix directly responds to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This marks a second suspension in short order, following a three-month moratorium concluded just a day prior. Square Enix is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates regarding the resumption of the demolition timers.
The impact of the Los Angeles wildfires extends beyond the game, with other events, including a Critical Role campaign and an NFL playoff game, also affected. Coupled with the recent return of the free login campaign, players have experienced a busy start to 2025. The duration of the current housing demolition freeze remains uncertain.
