Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements Revealed

Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on the upcoming PC release of FF7 Rebirth, addressing player interest in potential DLC and the modding community. Read on for details.

DLC Dependent on Player Demand

While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints have prioritized completion of the trilogy's final installment. As Hamaguchi stated in a December 13th Epic Games blog post, "We did have the desire to add an episodic story as a new DLC...However, given the limited amount of resources, working on and finishing the final game is the team’s ‘highest priority’ right now." However, the door isn't entirely closed. Future DLC is contingent upon significant player demand: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them."

A Message to Modders

The game won't have official mod support, but Hamaguchi acknowledges the inevitable interest from the modding community. He extends a welcome, while requesting responsible modding practices: "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate." This reasonable request aims to prevent the creation and spread of harmful or offensive content.

PC Version Improvements

The PC port boasts visual enhancements, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing previous concerns about the "uncanny valley effect" in character models. More powerful PCs will also benefit from access to higher-quality 3D models and textures beyond the PS5 capabilities. Porting the numerous mini-games also presented a significant challenge, requiring unique key configuration settings.
