Unleash the Ghoul Within

Bethesda's latest update for Fallout 76, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live, bringing a host of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics to enhance your C.A.M.P. This season, players can embrace their inner Ghoul through a process called Ghoulification, accessible via the "Leap of Faith" questline. This questline leads players to a new area in the Savage Divide, where they meet unique characters who assist in their transformation into a Ghoul.

As a Ghoul, players gain exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks." The Feral ability replaces the traditional hunger and thirst stats with a Feral meter, which, when full, boosts various stats. However, if the meter drops to 0%, players experience significant gameplay changes, including a 150% increase in Melee Damage but a substantial decrease in Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and gun accuracy.

The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing them to glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also enhances the effectiveness of Gherks.

While Ghouls have access to 28 new perks and 2 new legendary perks, they cannot use perks related to Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistance, as these are irrelevant to their new form.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Fallout 76 Ghoul Update Details

Exploring the wasteland as a Ghoul is facilitated by the new Gherks and abilities, making radiation zones less hazardous. However, interactions with factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially locking players out of certain questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye provides disguises that allow Ghouls to access content otherwise restricted to them.

If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a one-way decision. To become a Ghoul again, players must purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

New and veteran players alike can now accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost equips players with the necessary levels and perks to dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.

The Season 20 update also includes various bug fixes, balance adjustments, and enhancements to accessibility, combat, and weapon damage. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update scheduled for April 29, as part of their season calendar.

Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has seen numerous updates, leading to a "Mostly Positive" review status on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
