May 02,25

During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we received exciting new details about the game's innovative Free Roam mode. This mode promises to be highly multiplayer-focused and offers a range of activities as you explore Mario Kart World's expansive environment.

PlayAlthough we had a hands-on session with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive overview of the Free Roam mode. This new feature allows players to freely navigate the game's vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous Mario Kart titles, where race tracks were isolated and accessible only during races, Mario Kart World integrates these tracks into an open world. This means you can travel between tracks in certain game modes and explore the areas in between.

When you're not competing in races, Free Roam mode turns into an engaging adventure. The world is filled with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the specific benefits of collecting them remain undisclosed. Scattered throughout the map are P-Switches, which, when activated, trigger short challenges like collecting blue coins.

Moreover, Free Roam mode includes a Photo Mode, enabling you to capture stunning images of your racers from various poses and angles at any time. This mode isn't just for solo players; you can enjoy it with friends. Free Roam supports up to four players on the same system via split screen, or up to eight players through local wireless play (with two players per system).

The Mario Kart World Direct also showcased numerous other updates, including new characters, courses, and game modes. You can find all the details from the announcement right here.
