Dune: Awakening Hits Record Player Count on Steam

Feb 13,26

Dune: Awakening became available to all players yesterday, June 10, after early access for Head Starters began back on June 5. Within hours of its full release, Funcom’s survival MMO attracted over 142,000 concurrent players on Steam—142,050 to be exact.

This made Dune: Awakening the ninth most-played game on Steam over the past 24 hours. The player count is expected to rise throughout the week, especially as the game heads into its first official launch weekend, potentially leading to even higher concurrent peaks on Saturday or Sunday.

Prior to the launch, Funcom confirmed that the console version of Dune: Awakening is now anticipated to release "sometime in 2026"). We’ve also covered how players discovered a way to ride sandworms in the game, despite it not being an officially supported feature.

Our Dune: Awakening review is still in progress. While no final score has been assigned yet and we remain somewhat unimpressed by the gunplay, our reviewer noted: “After more than 35 hours, I still feel like I’m in the early stages of my adventure—new zones to explore, much of the main story remaining, and only a few PvP encounters so far. There’s a lot left to do, so look for an update later this week as I push toward the endgame.”
