Dune: Awakening Delayed Three Weeks for Beta-Driven Improvements

Apr 17,25

Fans of the iconic sci-fi universe of Frank Herbert's Dune and Denis Villeneuve's cinematic adaptations have something to look forward to with Dune: Awakening, the upcoming open-world survival MMO. However, the game's release has been pushed back to June 10, 2025, as announced by developer Funcom. This decision comes after valuable feedback gathered from the ongoing Persistent Closed Beta, allowing the team additional time to refine the game further. For those eager to dive in early, purchasing the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition will grant access starting June 5, 2025.

Funcom shared the news via a tweet, explaining the delay:

The extra time will enable Funcom to implement crucial changes requested during the beta phase and to prepare for a large-scale beta weekend next month. This event will give even more players the chance to experience Dune: Awakening and provide feedback.

While the delay might be disappointing for some eager fans, Funcom is set to host a combat livestream today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This stream will delve into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills, providing a deeper look into what players can expect.

Here at IGN, we're excited about Dune: Awakening. In our hands-on preview, we noted, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is one to watch."

For more information, you can explore details on the MMO's business model, post-launch plans, and the in-depth gameplay trailer that was unveiled at Gamescom ONL last year.
