"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Surprises Fans with Free Weapon DLC After Long Wait"

Apr 14,25

Despite BioWare having largely shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the game's remaining team has surprised fans by quietly introducing a small DLC weapons pack. Dragon Age enthusiasts were taken aback when the RPG's Steam page was updated to include the free Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer. While it may not be extensive, this addition is a welcome surprise, especially after EA had previously indicated minimal future support for the game. The fifth patch released in January had promised that future updates would primarily address critical bugs, making this new content feel like an unexpected bonus.

Strangely, the Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC by April 8, 2025. The specifics of what the bundle includes are not detailed, but players have discovered that it features a set of Watchful skins accessible in the Rook's in-game room. It remains uncertain whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

“Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever,” one Steam review says, “they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!”

"It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content," one Redditor commented. "I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which launched to positive reviews in October, did not manage to “resonate with a broad enough audience,” according to EA. Following the game's release, lead members of the development team announced their departure from BioWare in late January, with many staff members either being laid off or reassigned within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that the studio would be shifting its “full focus” to the next installment of the Mass Effect series.

Despite its challenges, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles just four months after its launch. No further plans for the game's future have been disclosed.
