Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game

Apr 14,25

Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which employed over 55 developers, has also canceled its first-person shooter game, Deadrop. In a heartfelt post on X, Midnight Society shared the news and reached out to other studios for potential employment opportunities for its team members.

Founded by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, who have worked on titles like Call of Duty and Halo, Midnight Society aimed to leverage their collective expertise with Deadrop. The game was envisioned as a free-to-play FPS set in a fictional universe where "the 80s never ended." The studio showcased characters donning Daft Punk-inspired helmets and equipped with both guns and swords, with the gameplay designed as a PvPvE extraction shooter. Despite targeting a 2024 release, Deadrop missed its deadline.

In 2024, Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm following his admission of exchanging messages with a minor on Twitch's Whispers feature, which he acknowledged as sometimes being inappropriate. Despite this, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until deciding to shut down this year.

The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of game studios affected by the challenging conditions in the gaming industry. Companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs have also faced closures or layoffs, reflecting the broader difficulties within the sector.
