Disney's Star Wars Horror Film in Works
Disney is developing a clandestine Star Wars horror project, as revealed by Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy.
The creative force behind Lucasfilm's latest critically acclaimed series hinted at undisclosed developments during an interview with Business Insider. When questioned about approaching a darker Star Wars narrative, he cryptically acknowledged such a project is already underway at Disney.
"They're actively working on it—I believe that's happening," Gilroy confirmed regarding the horror-themed Star Wars venture. "Yes, it's currently in development."

If confirmed, this would represent Star Wars' first full-fledged exploration of its darkest themes on screen. The project's format—whether series, film, or experimental medium—remains undisclosed, as does its creative leadership. While details may remain scarce for years, Gilroy's remarks suggest Disney recognizes the demand for mature storytelling within the franchise.
"With the right visionary, timing, and creative energy... possibilities become limitless," Gilroy reflected, drawing parallels to Andor's creative freedom. "Our hope is that Andor's reception creates opportunities for other bold interpretations, just as The Mandalorian paved our way."
A truly terrifying Star Wars film has long been a fan fantasy—shared by Mark Hamill himself. While the saga has extensively chronicled the Skywalker lineage and countless supporting characters, its most sinister narrative possibilities remain largely untapped. Though some spinoffs have flirted with darker tones, mainstream productions typically maintain broad age appeal.
Andor has distinguished itself as both Star Wars' most mature offering and one of its finest achievements. Its 2022 debut made waves (earning a 9/10 in our evaluation), maintaining its prestige within the franchise.
The wait concludes when Andor Season 2 launches its three-episode premiere on April 22. For background, explore how Season 1's triumph enabled this continuation, or preview upcoming 2025 Star Wars projects while awaiting the new episodes.
