Exciting developments are on the horizon for fans of Disney Lorcana, the beloved trading card game. The ninth set, aptly named "Fabled," is set to launch on September 5, 2025, and it promises to introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, as well as feature the much-anticipated inclusion of characters from A Goofy Movie.

Alongside the announcement of Fabled, further details were shared about the eighth set, "Reign of Jafar," which is scheduled to debut on June 6. This set will continue the saga of the Disney villain and introduce new cards and a co-op adventure. Additionally, a new Collection Starter Set was unveiled, designed to help new players dive into the game, and information was released about the upcoming Disney Lorcana World Championship. Not to be overlooked, the team also teased the addition of Darkwing Duck to the game's roster.

Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play

While we eagerly await more details about Fabled, the previews shared by the Disney Lorcana team are making the wait until the pre-release on August 29 and the wide release on September 5 all the more exciting.

One of the most significant additions to the game with Fabled will be the introduction of cards from A Goofy Movie. Although the exact cards haven't been revealed yet, the team did confirm that Mickey and Minnie will feature as the inaugural Iconic Cards.

Iconic Cards are poised to become the rarest in Lorcana, with only two being introduced in each set going forward. The debut Iconic Cards will showcase Mickey and Minnie on a carousel, making them highly sought-after collectibles for all players.

In addition to Iconic Cards, Fabled will introduce Epic Cards. These cards will be rarer than Legendary cards but not as scarce as Enchanted and Iconic ones. Epic Cards will boast unique artwork and foil treatments, adding to the excitement of potentially pulling a special card like the new Elsa (Snow Queen).

A notable change with Fabled is the introduction of card rotation, marking the first time certain cards will be phased out of competitive play. The top-level competitive format, known as Core Constructed, will exclude cards from the first four sets of Lorcana.

Moreover, Fabled will introduce reprints of cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will remain fully usable in competitive play.

“To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter,” said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. “But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

For newcomers to Lorcana, the team has announced a new Collection Starter Set to help you jumpstart your journey. This set includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor) on the front, and a collector's guide.

Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure

As mentioned earlier, Reign of Jafar, the eighth set of Lorcana, will be available for pre-release on May 30 and for wide release on June 6. This set will further the ongoing narrative centered around the Disney villain and offers fans a glimpse into what they can expect.

"Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will," the official description states. "Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."

Among the new cards available will be Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), and many more.

Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck

At the conclusion of the presentation, Disney revealed that the set following Fabled will be named "Whispers in the Well" and is slated for release in Q4 2025. While details are sparse, key art suggests the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and possibly characters from Disney Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer.

Looking further ahead, the team confirmed that Darkwing Duck will finally join the Lorcana universe in 2026, answering the long-standing requests of many fans.

Get Ready For the Disney Lorcana World Championship

The competitive scene for Lorcana is set to intensify with the Disney Lorcana World Championship taking place on June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. This major tournament will bring together players from around the globe to vie for the title of the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, with a team of casters including Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest).
