May 12,25

Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just unveiled an exciting lineup for its sci-fi shooter, Destiny 2, under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises four major content updates, including two new expansions and significant seasonal and core game enhancements, available to both paying and free-to-play Guardians.

The "Year of Prophecy" kicks off with Rite of the Nine, a free update that introduces a fresh take on dungeon diving. Available immediately, this update breathes new life into familiar dungeons such as Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep. Expect unique twists and the chance to reconnect with Orin, alongside refreshed dungeon weapons, ensuring even seasoned players find something new to explore.

On July 15, the new expansion Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate will launch, marking the beginning of a multiyear saga. This paid expansion will reintroduce the enigmatic Nine and feature new characters, Lodi and Ikora, stepping into the spotlight. Set on the new destination, Kepler, inspired by Destiny 2's dungeon puzzles and designed for deep exploration, players can look forward to new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.

Alongside the expansion, major core game innovations will roll out on the same day, including revamped armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This screen will streamline access to Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, designed for players seeking short, self-contained sessions without a fireteam. Additionally, 50 new modifiers will offer deeper gameplay customization, and curated activity rotations will keep the content fresh.

Pre-order bonuses for The Edge of Fate and the Year of Prophecy Edition are enticing, including instant unlocks like an Exotic Ghost and a Legendary Emblem. The Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition offers even more, with exclusive items such as the Exotic Sniper Rifle New Land Beyond, additional rewards passes, and a Secret Stash delivered with each seasonal update. Note that the Year of Prophecy Collector's Edition has already sold out.

Following this, the Ash & Iron update will launch on September 9, leading into the second expansion, Renegades, on December 2. Inspired by the legendary Star Wars universe, Renegades will blend Destiny's unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi themes. The final major update, Shadow & Order, is scheduled for March 3.

These updates come at a crucial time for Bungie, following the layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, just months after another round of layoffs. Despite these challenges, the company is also working on the Marathon reboot, which has generated excitement following its recent hands-on preview, promising to satisfy the Bungie PvP community when it launches on PC and consoles in September.
