Undertale creator Toby Fox has shared an update on the testing progress for Chapters 3 and 4 of his upcoming game, Deltarune. Learn more about the console testing phase and what players can anticipate.

Save Data Will Transfer to the Full Game

Through his official Bluesky account, Toby Fox, the creator of Deltarune and Undertale, informed fans that console testing continues to move forward smoothly, though a significant amount of work remains.

"Console testing is still underway. The number of bugs has decreased, but there’s plenty left to check. (We haven’t even started on the PS5 version yet)," Fox stated in the post. He also mentioned that alongside finalizing the new chapters, the team is implementing a feature to allow console demo save data (from Chapters 1 and 2) to carry over to the full version upon release—a capability they’ve only recently acquired the technology to support. "Fingers crossed it works!"

Given the positive progress in beta testing, the official launch may not be far off. Fox himself confirmed on Bluesky that Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are scheduled to arrive sometime in 2025.

Fox Reveals New Character: Tenna

Despite the heavy workload to ensure Chapters 3 and 4 are ready for launch, Toby Fox continues to engage his audience with occasional lighthearted updates. Known for his clever use of internet memes and self-aware humor, the indie developer posted the following:

"I shared a minigame I’m developing for Deltarune with my family and friends, and they all described it as ‘a desperate plea because your game isn’t out yet’," Fox revealed last week. He noted that his family clarified this was meant as a compliment, while his friend found it so amusing they "laughed nonstop for ten minutes."

This comment led some fans to speculate that, since Fox mentioned in 2024 that Chapters 3 and 4 are complete in terms of content, the minigame could actually be intended for the later Chapter 5. Deltarune is planned to span a total of seven chapters.

Fox continued: "The same friend who played Chapter 3 over a year ago also told me, ‘I miss Tenna.’ My reaction was, ‘Well, that’s something nobody else on the planet has ever said.’" Tenna is a character not yet publicly seen in Deltarune, but first appeared during the Spamton Sweepstakes event on the game’s official website in September 2022, supporting the Child’s Play charity. Fox’s reference confirms that Tenna will appear in Chapter 3.

Deltarune serves as a parallel universe follow-up to 2015’s Undertale, retaining many of the original game’s mechanics and charm while introducing a fresh narrative and cast. Players join Kris, Susie, and Ralsei on their mission to save the world.
