Who is Danny Dyer and Why is Rockstar Posting About His Latest Movie?

Mar 17,25

Rockstar Games' recent X (formerly Twitter) post promoting the film Marching Powder and its star, Danny Dyer, likely left many scratching their heads. Why would a company with 21 million followers promote a relatively small British film? Let's unravel the mystery.

Who is Danny Dyer?

For those unfamiliar, Daniel John Dyer, or Danny Dyer as he's known, is a highly recognizable East London actor. In the UK, he's a bona fide "legend," a term, according to Urban Dictionary, describing someone "funny, reckless, original and sensitive in the right measures." His career, spanning since 1993, has established him as a master of portraying gritty, working-class characters, a persona mirrored in his outspoken public image and "tough uncle" life approach. His social media presence is equally vibrant, filled with memorable posts, like this gem from 2013: "Roll on bonfire night..........it's gonna get strapped to a great big massive fuck off Rocket so it can join the other Furbys in the sky..."

Dyer's Connection to Rockstar

Even if you're not familiar with Dyer, GTA fans likely recognize his voice. He voiced Kent Paul, manager of the band Love Fist in GTA: Vice City, and reprised the role for GTA: San Andreas, managing the Gurning Chimps and later producing for rapper Madd Dogg. However, his deeper connection to Rockstar stems from the 2004 film The Football Factory, directed by Nick Love and *produced by Rockstar Games*. This marked a foray into feature film production for the gaming giant.

Marching Powder, the film Rockstar promoted, reunites Dyer and Love. While not a direct sequel to The Football Factory, it shares thematic similarities: football hooliganism, heavy drinking, drug use, and a distinctly British brand of dark humor. Despite the X post, Rockstar's involvement in Marching Powder is purely supportive, stemming from their past collaboration with Dyer and Love on The Football Factory.

Kent Paul's Return in GTA 6?

The short answer is: we don't know. The X post offers no clues regarding GTA 6. However, speculation is fun. The GTA universe is divided into the 3D era (PS2/PSP) and the HD era (GTA 4 onwards), considered separate universes. While there's no direct continuation of storylines, some elements overlap. Grove Street appears in GTA 5, some gangs from the 3D era reappear in the HD era, and Lazlo has made multiple appearances. Notably, Kent Paul has a star on the Vinewood Walk of Fame. Therefore, a return in GTA 6 is possible, but the Marching Powder post doesn't provide any confirmation.
