'Captain America 4' Among MCU's Briefest Films

Mar 12,25

Captain America: Brave New World is making history as the shortest Captain America film, and one of the shortest MCU films overall. AMC Theatres confirmed its runtime: a concise one hour and 58 minutes. This places it among the few MCU films under two hours, ranking as the seventh shortest out of 35 films. In contrast, the previous three Captain America films all exceeded two hours.

While most shorter MCU films hail from Phases 1 and 2, several recent exceptions exist. The shortest is 2022's The Marvels at one hour and 45 minutes, followed by The Incredible Hulk, Thor: The Dark World, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Ant-Man. Brave New World shares its runtime with Ant-Man and The Wasp. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Avengers: Endgame clocks in at a hefty three hours and one minute, followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Eternals, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Despite its upcoming February 14th release, Brave New World reportedly underwent extensive rewrites and reshoots, including scenes featuring WWE star Seth Rollins. The impact of these revisions on the final runtime remains unclear.

This film marks a new era for the Captain America franchise. Following Chris Evans' Steve Rogers' retirement, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson takes the mantle. Mackie promises a continuation of the series' grounded, espionage-focused narrative.

Brave New World also introduces some deep-cut characters from Marvel lore, including a payoff to a tease from The Incredible Hulk with the introduction of The Leader, alongside Red Hulk.
