Mobile premium game updates usually improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces online DRM. This DRM verifies your purchase history upon launching the games, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Refusal results in game closure. While the check takes only a few seconds with an internet connection, it prevents offline play – a significant drawback compared to previous versions.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline functionality. Post-update, the online check is mandatory. This unwelcome change negatively impacts the user experience. While some may not mind, the forced online DRM for already-purchased games is concerning. Hopefully, Capcom will revise their purchase verification method, perhaps implementing less frequent checks. This update makes recommending Capcom's premium mobile ports more difficult.
