Launch Date Moved Up to September 12

In an unexpected turn of events following the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford took to Twitter (X) on April 29 to reveal that Borderlands 4 will now launch on September 12, two weeks earlier than originally planned. Although Pitchford initially deleted the video and issued a follow-up post, the news was swiftly confirmed by Borderlands 4's official Twitter (X) account.

Pitchford explained in his video that the development process has been exceptionally smooth, describing it as "the best scenario." This accelerated progress allowed the team to move up the launch date, originally set for September 23 as announced in February's State of Play. The official post from Borderlands 4 reads, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."

Gearbox Software is committed to delivering what they promise to be the greatest Borderlands game yet. With the release date now closer than initially advertised, fans will soon be able to explore and cause chaos on the new planet of Kairos earlier than expected.
