Board Up Windows in Project Zomboid: Essential Security Guide

Dec 30,24

Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a place to hide. This guide focuses on a crucial aspect of base defense: barricading windows. While finding a safe haven is the first step, keeping the undead at bay is a whole different challenge. Let's learn how to effectively board up your windows.

How to Secure Your Windows in Project Zomboid

To barricade a window, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these, simply right-click on the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can support up to four planks for enhanced protection.

Finding these supplies is relatively straightforward. Hammers and nails are commonly found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are usually located on construction sites, or, in a pinch, can be salvaged by breaking down wooden furniture (shelves and chairs). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items directly.

Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks you add, the longer it takes for them to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click on the barricade and select "Remove". Remember, you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do this.

It's important to note that larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as barricades. Characters and zombies will simply pass through them. While these items are useless for defense, knowing how to move furniture remains a valuable skill for interior design purposes.

For superior protection, consider metal bars or sheets. However, this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
