Ready to conquer the Chatacabra, that long-tongued amphibian menace in *Monster Hunter Wilds*? This guide will walk you through both killing and capturing this early-game foe, ensuring you’re well-prepared for future hunts.

How to Defeat the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Chatacabra

Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb

The Chatacabra, a relatively small frog-like monster, primarily uses close-range attacks with its tongue. While it can rush you from a distance, its attacks are generally predictable. Any weapon type can be effective, though the Bow and Charge Blade might be slightly less efficient due to the Chatacabra's smaller size and the multi-hit nature of some attacks being more effective on larger targets.

Most attacks involve its tongue, making the front a dangerous area. Besides its licking attack, it slams its front limbs into the ground after a noticeable rearing-up animation. The only significant attack from a distance is a tongue sweep after raising its head.

The optimal strategy is to stay to its sides, dodging or blocking its slam attack. Utilizing its elemental weaknesses (Ice and Thunder) will significantly speed up the fight.

How to Capture the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Trapping Chatacabra

Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern. The Chatacabra, thankfully, cannot fly, simplifying the process. You'll need either a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, and two Tranquilizer Bombs. However, it’s wise to carry one of each trap type and a full eight Tranquilizer Bombs for contingencies.

Battle the Chatacabra until its health is critically low, indicated by a skull icon on the mini-map. At this point, it will attempt to flee. Follow it, set your chosen trap, and lure it inside. Once trapped, use two Tranquilizer Bombs to capture it.
