Bandai Namco Remasters Another Tales Title, Likely Xillia

Bandai Namco is hinting at another remaster from the Tales series, and all signs point to it being Tales of Xillia.

The tease comes from an upcoming livestream posted to the Tales of YouTube Channel, scheduled to premiere tomorrow at 7am PT / 10am ET. Right now, the stream is just a static image that asks: "The Next Tales Of Remastered is...?"

However, as noted on social media, an earlier version of this video accidentally went live days ago on the Bandai Namco Europe page, clearly revealing the remaster as Tales of Xillia. So it’s almost certain that’s what will be unveiled during tomorrow's early morning stream—surprisingly, hours before Gamescom Opening Night Live later that afternoon.

Tales of Xillia originally launched in 2011 in Japan and 2013 worldwide. It follows the dual protagonists Jude and Milla as they discover a dangerous superweapon and embark on a mission to prevent its activation. We previously rated it 8/10, which—coupled with its status as a PS3-exclusive that’s tough to revisit today—makes it a strong candidate for a remaster. The game also spawned a sequel, Tales of Xillia 2, which was also confined to the PS3.

That said, some fans may be let down that this isn't the Tales remaster they were anticipating. Last year, Bandai Namco introduced the Tales of Remastered Program, beginning with Tales of Graces f (following the Tales of Symphonia remaster the year before). During that announcement, we asked producer Yuki Ishikawa about the possibility of remastering the fan-favorite Tales of the Abyss, often considered one of the series' finest entries.

"If a Tales of the Abyss remaster becomes possible, and I can share that excitement with fans, I’ll do my best to make it happen," Ishikawa said. As for me, I’ll keep holding out hope for Zestiria—but I’m willing to be patient.
