Matajuegos has exciting news for fans of surrealist gaming: their acclaimed documentary game, Atuel, is set to launch on PC and Android later this year. Eager players can already pre-register on the game's newly launched Steam page, with Google Play pre-registration expected to open soon.

Originating from an indie cooperative in Argentina, Matajuegos first released Atuel on itch.io back in September 2022. The game rapidly gained recognition for its innovative mix of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and captivating, dreamlike visuals. The game's unique approach earned it the 'Innovation in Experience Design Award' at IndieCade 2022, along with several other accolades. Atuel has also been featured at prestigious venues like the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Interested in experiencing Atuel for yourself? Take a sneak peek at the game through the trailer below.

What Do You Do in Atuel, the Documentary Game?

Atuel dives into the heart of Argentina's Atuel River Valley, a region of stunning beauty that's grappling with the impacts of climate change. The game offers an immersive experience where you transform into various animals and natural elements, allowing you to become an integral part of the ecosystem. One moment you might be gliding through the air, and the next, you're embodying the flow of the river itself.

The narrative is enriched with real-life interviews featuring historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, who discuss the region's past, its current challenges, and the looming future shaped by climate change. Matajuegos teamed up with the international documentary group, The 12.01 Project, to weave these compelling stories into the gameplay. The game's visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, create an almost otherworldly atmosphere that sets Atuel apart.

As you await the Android pre-registration, you can visit the Steam page or the official website for more details. Upon its mobile release, Atuel will offer localization in seven new languages and full controller support.

In the meantime, don't miss our exclusive coverage of another new release, the open-world ski and snowboard game, Grand Mountain Adventure 2.
