Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility problems for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has swiftly addressed the issue for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, releasing patches to restore functionality. However, players of Assassin's Creed Odyssey may still experience difficulties.

The Windows 11 24H2 update, while boasting features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+ PC integration, caused some games to malfunction. This affected several Ubisoft titles, including the aforementioned Assassin's Creed games.

Ubisoft's patches for Origins (230 MB) and Valhalla (500 MB) are available via Steam and should resolve launch and performance problems. Users should ensure sufficient storage space before installing.

Ongoing Issues with Other Ubisoft Games

While the patches for Origins and Valhalla are a welcome fix, reports indicate that other Ubisoft games remain affected. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, in particular, continues to cause problems for some players. Although previous hotfixes addressed critical issues in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, minor performance problems may persist.

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. While Ubisoft addressed some issues before the official 24H2 rollout, the full extent of the problem wasn't resolved. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. However, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update. Players experiencing issues with Assassin's Creed Odyssey are advised to postpone the Windows 11 24H2 update until a dedicated patch is released.
