The journey of *The Wheel of Time* on Prime Video has come to an abrupt halt as Amazon has decided not to renew the series beyond Season 3. According to a report by Deadline, the decision came after "lengthy deliberations" where, despite the show being well-liked by executives, the financial aspects did not align favorably.

*The Wheel of Time* is an adaptation of Robert Jordan's beloved fantasy book series, starring Rosamund Pike among others. The series faced initial criticism from fans due to significant deviations from the source material in the first two seasons. However, Season 3 managed to win over the majority of the fanbase, setting the stage for potentially even greater storytelling.

The cancellation is a bitter pill for fans, especially considering the vast amount of story left to explore. Many felt that the show was just beginning to hit its stride. The high production costs, shared between co-producers Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, proved to be the decisive factor. Amazon MGM Studios, also behind the costly *The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power*, found the financial commitment for another season of *The Wheel of Time* unfeasible.

As Deadline noted:

... the Season 3 overall performance was not strong enough compared to the show’s cost for Prime Video to commit to another season and the streamer could not make it work after examining different scenarios and following discussions with lead studio Sony TV, sources said.

IGN's review of *The Wheel of Time* Season 3 awarded it an 8/10, stating: "The Wheel of Time finally achieves its full potential in season 3, which is filled with rich characters finding their place in Robert Jordan’s complex fantasy world."

Although the TV series has concluded, fans can look forward to a new 'AAA Open-World RPG' based on *The Wheel of Time*. IGN had the opportunity to speak with iwot Studios, the rights holders, to learn more about this upcoming project.
